Record Store Day – April 16th 2011

Some days are worth waking up at an unholy hour for.
We all know the obvious ones – pancake day, international cleavage day, international day of awesomeness (yes is exists – every 10th March!) – but there is one slightly special one for me and for music lovers across the (participating) world.
That day is Record Store Day.

It is that time of the year again, the third Saturday of April marks the fourth RSD and this year looks to be an absolute corker!
There are over 180 stores participating this year (who says record stores are dying?) with big events and even bigger releases.
I suggest you get down to your local Record Store this Saturday for events and fun to be had by all!
Here is the list of stores – so find your closest one and get down there!

My local happens to be Rough Trade – by local I mean it’s on my walk to and from work, where I do spend most of my time – and they are the Godfather’s of the UK operation. This year featuring performances during the day from Wild Beasts and Chilly Gonzales, while the evening kicks off at 93ft East with Soundtrack Of Our Lives and Gyratory System.
So grab a record, then grab a pint with some live music – that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

But I know what you really want to know, so without further ado, here are the five things we can’t wait to get our greasy mits on!

  1. Jenny & Johnny/Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris – Love Hurts (split 7”)
  2. Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues/Battery Kinzie (12”)
  3. Nirvana – Hormoaning (12” Coloured Mini-LP)
  4. Death Cab For Cutie – Home Is A Fire/You Are A Tourist (7”)
  5. Sound It Out Documentary – trailer featured on our Saturday videos a while back!

So there you have it, these are the things that will (hopefully) be dropping into our shopping bags.
The full list of releases can be found here.
What are you most looking forward to?
