We recently caught up with an energetic bunch of fresh faced punk-pop hopefuls known as According To Her. They’ve just put out a mosh-worthy debut single and we reckon they’re pretty damn good.
Here’s what they had to say for themselves.
Where are you guys from?
We are from Guildford, Surrey, in the UK. Its about an hour’s drive from London.
When did you decide that you wanted to make music together?
Tom (Napier – Guitar) and Mikey (Anderson – Guitar) started ATH as two guitarists, around 5 years ago at school. They knew AJ (Fritsch – Bass) from another band and about 2 years ago he joined ATH as the bassist. After auditioning singers from the ACM music college we stumbled across our singer Charlotte Lock and we found drummer Harry Evans around 3 months ago.
Who are your biggest influences?
Going across all members: Charlie Simpson, John Mayer, Brand New, Johnny Cash, The Fray, Story of the Year – just to name a few!
You’re a female fronted pop/rock band. How often do you get compared to Paramore?
To be honest we used to get compared to Paramore quite a bit. When we started out they were the most well known female-fronted act around, therefore being an up-and-coming band with a female vocalist was challenging. We are quite different to them in terms of genre and we hardly get any comparisons with Paramore nowadays. Its probably due to the increase in number of bands with female vocalists.
Did that comparison piss you off?
Haha! Sometimes its a bit annoying. If people want to compare us to another band then that’s fine with us, but we’re just going to continue to enjoy doing what we do. At the end of the day its all about the love for music – that’s why we’re all here and we love doing our own thing.
Which song do you most wish you had written?
We’ve all got our different opinions, Charlotte reckons ‘Kiss From A Rose’ by Seal, AJ thinks ‘Nude’ by Radiohead, Tom thinks ‘Iris’ by Goo Goo Dolls, Mikey thinks ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ by The Verve, and Harry isn’t sure!
Where can people get their hands on your music?
You can find our debut single ‘Hands That Break The Fall’ for FREE at our Band Camp.
Can we expect to hear any new songs soon?
You can indeed! We are putting the finishing touches to our debut EP titled Goodbyes and New Beginnings, it will be available over the next couple of months, completely free! Keep checking back on our Facebook for more details.
Do you have any funny band stories you’d care to share?
When we were shooting the video for our single ‘Hands That Break The Fall’ Mikey was trying to guitar swing on a separate take that we would then edit into the video. When doing this his guitar strap snapped and his guitar went flying across the room into his amp, smashing a light that was on the floor. His guitar was fine apart from a couple of dents and scratches and it was pretty funny!
Tell us about the favourite gig you have ever played?
We played the Camden Underworld a few weeks back which was probably the best show we’ve ever done! It was with our best band buds Nylon Sky – we had a great time!
What’s next for you guys then?
First things first – releasing our EP over summer. We’re then looking at some more shows later on in the year, another single/video release and possibly even another EP. Busy busy!
Finally then, is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
